FAQs

• Question: Are lights included?

  Answer:  LIGHTS ARE NOT INCLUDED, but there’s a very good reason for that. Every homeowner has a vision for their outdoor space, and the available options for light selection are vast, so a one-size-fits-all approach just ends up wasting everyone’s time and money. YARDHAUS does however offer a modular lighting system described in the website on the Pillar Pro, page.

• Question: What’s in the box?

  Answer: The Pillar Pro Deck Kit -This Light Hanging System includes everything needed to hang overhead light strands above the railing. The system includes two 9’ anodized aluminum tubes, upper and lower mounting brackets, four Crown Elite compression hangers (two that mount at the top of each pole & two that mount to any other surface type), and all the necessary stainless steel hardware.

• Question: What tools do I need to install Pillar Pro?

  Answer: Common contractor tools are all that’s needed: Drill, Drill bit (for pilot holes), philips #2 bit, level. Optionally, a masonry bit, if you plan to use togs and install into stucco, brick or stone. An Allen wrench is included in the box to assemble the tubes.

• Question: Where can I install Pillar Pro?

  Answer:

  1. Pillar Pro is intended for use on small and medium sized elevated decks with a railing. Designed to be attached directly to the vertical posts, each Pillar Pro pole can reach up to 10’ above the primary deck surface. The Deck Kit includes brackets that are designed to attach to wood 4x4s (wood or vinyl-clad wood). An optional Aluminum Post Bracket is available and was designed to accommodate 2”, 2.25” and 2.5” square posts.

  2. The Deck Kit brackets can be mounted to any vertical surface that is secure, such as fence posts, structural wall (house, garage, shed) or retaining wall, given that the appropriate fasteners are used.

  3. Earthen installations can be achieved with ground screws, for temporary installations, and stainless poles for permanent installations. We recommend the following ground screw: https://www.amazon.com/American-Ground-Screw-Model-Cap/dp/B0786PSY2M

• Question: How many feet of lights can I hang with Pillar Pro?

  Answer: The system is designed to support string light runs of 20’, where 5-10% of sag is recommended. Light strands of up to 30’ can be supported; however, based on the amount of sag in the run, you can expect up to 3 degrees of Pillar Pro pole tilt/deflection.

• Question: What are the most important considerations when planning my installation?

  Answer:

  1. Overhead lighting will add ambiance to your outdoor space. Where most lighting options (pole caps, railing lights, step lights, etc.) are functional, they do little to create a convivial environment. YARDHAUS Pillar Pro can accommodate a wide range of deck shapes and sizes of the small to medium variety.

  2. Homeowners generally overestimate how many lights are needed to provide the desired ambiance. Consider starting with a single strand of lights, or V pattern. One or two strands of lights will provide adequate lighting for outdoor entertaining and gatherings, (you can always add more late or change the pattern as desired).

  3. The length of the light run is rarely the same length of off-the-shelf lights. It is important to carefully estimate the full length of the string light run before purchasing new light kits. Excess length can be challenging to resolve, as cutting light strands (110V) introduces risk and liability issues.   4. Some sag in your light string is inevitable. The less sag, the more energy is transferred to the poles. The poles are engineered to have less than 1 degree of deflection with 22 lbs of weight/force. Therefore, a 20’ light strand, tightened to 5% sag should produce less than 22 lbs of force. The weight of the light strands themselves will have a direct impact on the overall weight. See our recommended light stands list for options.

  5. For light runs greater than 25’, or more than two strands per pole, we suggest Pillar Pro XR.

  6. Location of your string light power source is an important consideration. Pillar Pro poles allow for power cords to be hidden inside, providing a clean and clutter-free installation

  7. Consider using a smart switch or dusk/dawn timer for the management of your new lights.

• Question: What is the warranty for Pillar Pro?

  Answer: The limited lifetime warranty covers replacement parts for 5 years. Void if the product is modified in any way.

• Question: What are the Pillar Pro product specs?

  Answer:

  1. Pillar Pro Deck Kit – Light Hanging System is manufactured from aircraft quality aluminum, machined and anodized to exact specifications for performance, elegance, and longevity. The hardware is black stainless steel and will resist rust or fading indefinitely. The remaining components are injection molded PC+ABS, and are UV resistant. All components have a 5 year warranty.

  2. We believe it is not possible to recreate Pillar Pro’s level of premium quality, performance characteristics, and detailed craftsmanship from any accumulation of off-the-shelf parts found in big box superstores or neighborhood hardware store.

• Question: Has Pillar Pro been real-world tested?

  Answer:

  1. Pillar Pro has been installed at our Philippines manufacturing facility for 3 years, and has endured strong sun and salt water, as well as more than 6 typhoons with absolutely zero problems or defects.

  2. Extensive bench testing for durability and performance has resulted in a product that delivers exceptionally high levels of performance and simplicity.
